Dereliction

A couple more small paintings in what is becoming a series of derelict or deserted buildings.  Again, based on a found image, these are on hard panels which give a greater texture to the paint.  These are still in progress (and the photos aren't very good, caught a bit too much reflection.  Will work on this.) but I'm going to try and leave some of the roughness - it seems to go with the character of the subjects.

Stairs, stillness

Something a bit different for a me; a melancholy setting, but rather haunting.  The source for this was a found image (uncredited, I'm afraid) which stuck with me and I thought I would turn into a small painting.

Two Figs - a commission

This one was a commission, so I thought it was worth sharing since it won't be seen in public - at least for some time.  Some friends of ours near Hay-on-Wye are restoring an amazing Victorian glasshouse - the largest in Wales - and turning it into a lovely restaurant.  They commissioned this painting, which will be on the walls of the new restaurant when it opens, in 2014.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my painting blog.  I wanted somewhere to be able to post some of my smaller work - studies, daily paintings, maybe even the odd print or drawing - away from my normal website.  And a blog suddenly seemed like the obvious answer.  So here we go.  Just to get in the swing of it, I'll start with a couple of small paintings that I did last week . . .

These are both 50 x 40 cms, oil on canvas.  More coming soon . . .
